Frequently Asked Questions

  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment.

Once you arrive, there is a new patient form for you to fill in. If you have any questions about the form you can leave a section blank until you have spoken with your osteopath.

Initially, your osteopath will ask you questions including your presenting complaint, associated symptoms, past medical history and current medications. Providing your osteopath with all relevant information will assist them in diagnosis and treatment.

Your osteopath will then complete a thorough examination – this can include orthopaedic, neurological or postural testing, along with range of motion testing (you may be asked to move a part of your body or the osteopath may move part of your body to assess any decrease or restriction in range of motion).

Once your osteopath has completed your case history and examination, your treatment will be explained to you. In some cases, where necessary, you will be referred on.

Once your treatment plan has been explained to you, you can choose to move ahead with treatment by providing your osteopath with informed consent.  Informed consent can be withdrawn at any point during treatment.  All consent forms will be signed in the treatment room once treatment has been explained.

Treatment can involve a variety of techniques – including soft tissue massage, muscle techniques, joint articulation, mobilisation or manipulation, or dry needling.

The amount that is covered will vary depending on which fund you are with and your level of cover.

Claims can be processed on the day – just remember to bring your private health card along with you to your appointment.

  • Osteopathy is not specifically covered by Medicare.

In certain cases you may be entitled to 5 Medicare subsidised visits per calendar year. This would be under a Chronic Disease Management Plan. You can discuss your eligibility with your GP and a referral would need to be provided.

The Chronic Disease Management Plan covers $53.80 per appointment, as Remedy Osteopathy is not a bulk billing practice, you will be required to pay the full consultation fee and claim the Medicare rebate back after your appointment.  The rebate can be claimed on the spot, if you have a savings or debit card.
